Outcome
People now must become more aware of the ‘selfie addiction.’
Design Action
Dear Levi,
“What could be done to reduce the amount of selfies that are taken. Since snapchat was first launched the number of selfies taken has rapidly increased. But is it snapchat to blame? Or has snapchat borrowed the concept of taking a picture of yourself with the front camera.
What makes the action I want, morever more difficult is that I am not on the side where selfies should be ‘banned.’ I am placing myself in the spot of someone else.
Condition
Dear Basma
Taking a selfie has been this recent ‘trend.’ It is known as the big thing in our time now. How hard is it not to take a selfie? For some it may seem okay not to take a picture of themselves, but others will not be able to. Sometimes they only need to control themselves, but sometimes they couldnt. Selfies are becoming habits. I could for example go ahead and say that i will stop taking selfies, however in a few hours or maybe within minutes I would forget. This concept has become has become a part of our everyday life. It is becoming a necessary doing just like getting up in the morning and brushing your teeth.

Problem Solving
Problem —> design action —> If the problem is solved the situation looks like this.
problem?
- Countless selfies taken by individuals everywhere.
- Selfies taken in serious places eg. a place on fire.
- Selfies/Videos while driving.
Design action?
- raise awareness of either problem
How the situation looks like after solving the problem?
- Reduce the number of selfies
- Ban while driving, pay fine if caught –> a driving rule like seatbelts.
- Ban selfies?

Selfie
A selfie is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a digital camera or camera phone held in the hand or supported by a selfie stick. Selfies are often shared on social networking services such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. They are usually flattering and made to appear casual. Most selfies are taken with a camera held at arm’s length or pointed at a mirror, rather than by using a self-timer.

I searched the word selfie on google images and found thousands of portrait images.
What struck me most is this ‘ If Mona lisa was on instagram.’ Is the image an insult to the painting itself, or is it an insult to those taking selfies with their faces looking like the one in the image?
The number of selfies that are taken nowadays are countless. Selfies are taken as portraits, a photograph of one at some place. However those places that people take selfies in are sometimes ‘inappropriate.’ Holy places and serious situations are not places for selfies.
Here are some examples:
An Art Historical painting of The Last Supper with a modern interpretation.

Thoughts on design actions:
- Print out photographs of selfies from all over the world on a wall. (Bringing the world together) could be a positive reaction. Interactive
- Make my own ‘selfie station’ where people from all around the university take selfies in the spot for a ‘perfect’ portrait. Videos could be taken to see the actions they make. Positive reaction. Interactive

Abstract
Snapchat is taking over all social media services out there from twitter, instagram to facebook. It is becoming the new ‘trend.’ It is also becoming the new way of business and marketing where companies try promoting their products through this application. Not only in the bigger world it has made an impact, but also individually. Snapchat has changed humans’ behaviors and perspectives towards one another.
Snapchat is becoming a big part of the world. It built itself a community and created a culture of its own. This application is also attracting businesses and companies due to its large amount of moneymaking. After the production of snapchat there seems to be a large number of people who identify themselves as ‘snapchat famous.’ Those people become famous from the amount of posts they make and the follow they get from people on snapchat, they call themselves ‘socialistas.’ Then comes the fashion bloggers who join the same community and call themselves ‘fashionistas.’ Nowadays those ‘snapchat famous’ people are paid to advertise products through the application. The question is: is it the community that is giving them more than they deserve? Is it the society to blame?

Snapchat formed its own culture, the ‘selfie culture.’ Wherever you go you will always find atleast one person moving their arms high up, turning their head to the left and right trying to find the perfect lighting for that selfie. American Psychiatric Association suggests that taking so many selfies could indicate of a mental disorder.
Taking selfies has become a big part of the world; it is becoming normal seeing people taking pictures of themselves. There are sometimes some serious issues where people stop, cold hearted, take a selfie and leave.
On the other hand, in some other places they encourage the community to take selfies. Novo cinemas, The Pearl, have a very large poster saying ‘take novo selfie,’ with the hashtag #takeanovoselfie advertising the cinema. Selfies have also become a way of promoting which links back to the first aspect of snapchat, business and marketing.
